New space surveillance system “Panopticon” installed at Sonnblick Observatory

The innovative Panopticon space surveillance system has been installed at Sonnblick Observatory in cooperation with Cloudstone Innovations & isee-space.

Panopticon enables continuous, global observation of low Earth orbits (LEO) and thus supports the detection of satellite maneuvers, object releases, and debris events. Thanks to the use of commercially available components and an innovative data and resource exchange model, the system offers a powerful and sustainable alternative to conventional space surveillance solutions.

The “sensor-in-a-box” unit operates completely independently, requires minimal energy, and, thanks to its compact design, can also be operated efficiently in remote locations such as Sonnblick. The aim of the project is to contribute to the sustainable use and monitoring of space through international cooperation.
