The Sonnblick Verein

The Sonnblick Association is an important supporter of the Sonnblick Observatory.
The purpose of the Sonnblick Association is to conduct and promote scientific research in high mountain regions, particularly in the fields of the atmosphere, cryosphere, and biosphere.

Until 2023, the Sonnblick Association was the owner of the observatory and, starting in 1892, ensured that scientific operations could continue at the Hoher Sonnblick despite very changing economic and political circumstances. In 2023, the infrastructure was handed over to ZAMG and its legal successor GeoSphere Austria, and since then it has been able to focus on promoting science, knowledge transfer, and keeping a chronicle. The Sonnblick Association is particularly committed to supporting young scientists.

Currently the association Sonnblick Verein counts 240 members.
New members are very welcome. Members get special insights into operation and research projects.
